He ran for the county's lead educational seat unopposed in 2018 and began his second four-year term in January 2019.\n\n\n\nWith more than 30 years of experience in public education\, Mr. Alejandre has been a teacher\, vice principal\, principal and director of fiscal services at the district level\, and served as the assistant superintendent of Business Services in the Yucaipa-Calimesa Joint Unified School District. He joined County Schools in 2008 as the assistant superintendent of Business Services\, and later was appointed deputy superintendent\, overseeing all operations of the organization.\n\n\n\nAs county superintendent\, Mr. Alejandre works collaboratively with educators\, families\, other agencies and stakeholders to provide advocacy\, leadership and services for and on behalf of the 403\,000 K-12 students attending public schools in San Bernardino County. His office oversees a $285 million annual operating budget and employs nearly 2\,000 employees.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLeslie Sorensen\, Executive Director of the Ontario-Montclair Schools Foundation\n\nLeslie Sorensen currently works for the Ontario-Montclair School District and serves as the Executive Director of the Ontario-Montclair Schools Foundation and Promise Scholars program. Leslie has led the Promise Scholars program since its inception in 2011. Promise Scholars brings businesses\, educators\, nonprofits\, and local government together to strengthen the community by encouraging all students to pursue their education after high school and achieve their career goals. The program currently serves over 1\,000 parents and 20\,000 students Kindergarten through college through the help of 300 volunteers each year. The program has won both the California School Boards Association Golden Bell Award and the California League of Cities' highest honor\, the Helen Putnam Award.\n\nLeslie has over 25 years of experience in developing cross-sector collaborative partnerships to support children and families including case management and mental health services continuum of care. She has served as a consultant and trainer on strategic planning\, program design\, grant development\, and evaluation. \n\n\n\n \n\nDr. Dale Marsden\, Superintendent of San Bernardino City Unified School District.\n\n\n\nDr. Dale Marsden is superintendent of the San Bernardino City Unified School District\, California's 10th largest urban public school district\, which serves a diverse student population comprised of 74 percent Latino and 12 percent African-American students and a 91 percent poverty rate. The District serves over 50\,000 students in 72 schools across a 98-square-mile radius. \n\n\n\nDr. Marsden is a veteran educator with a proven track record of transforming educational systems by focusing on a broad-based community engagement approach that has resulted in historic increases of graduation rates\, 50 percent reduction of suspensions and citations\, and the creation of robust career pathways that have students in elementary through high school developing the skills and certifications necessary to succeed in both college and careers.\n\n\n\nFor 2017-18\, SBCUSD achieved a 91.8% graduation rate\, surpassing the county\, state and national average. Under his leadership\, the District has become a catalyst to lead the City of San Bernardino\n\nbeyond bankruptcy to a community of excellence.
